Categories eligible for funding are:&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"rich-text\">\n<ul><div class=\"rich-text\">\n<li><strong>Purchase and installation of hardware and\/or software<\/strong> (e.g., licensing of archiving software, installation of live streaming equipment, purchase of cloud storage)<\/li>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<li><strong>Build-out\/permanent infrastructure<\/strong> (e.g., installation of networking equipment, outdoor projections)<\/li>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<li><strong>Staff or contract support<\/strong> (e.g. contract videographer, full-time web developer, social media manager)<\/li>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<li><strong>Website design and development&nbsp;<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<li><strong>Mobile application development<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<li><strong>Digitization\/archiving <\/strong>(e.g. digital collection photography, media conservation\/preservation, archives records management, etc.)<\/li>\n<\/div><\/ul>\n<\/div><div class=\"rich-text\">\n<p><strong>The Knight Art + Tech Expansion Fund<\/strong> is open to individual artists, non-profit arts organizations, and arts collectives based in Charlotte. Organizations or collectives may ask for up to $100,000.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<p>Beyond the funds, what support does Knight offer recipients of the Fund?&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<p>Some grantees may be eligible to receive additional technical and operational support consulting hours through <a href=\"https:\/\/apparo.org\/\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/apparo.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Apparo<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/dd><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"faq__item\"><dt class=\"faq__question\">Do I have to provide a letter of support if my idea is contingent on another organization or partner?<\/dt><dd class=\"faq__answer\"><div class=\"rich-text\">\n<p>Yes. A letter of support is required from critical key partners.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/dd><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"faq__item\"><dt class=\"faq__question\">How can I gain an edge in my application?<\/dt><dd class=\"faq__answer\"><div class=\"rich-text\">\n<p>The Fund is intended to increase the long-term capacity of working artists and arts organizations. We encourage applicants to be as detailed as possible on how the application of technology will have a lasting impact on their work, and ultimately, on their community.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<p>Applications that emphasize the long-term impact of the application of technology will have an edge over those that emphasize short-term or unclear goals. Here are some example descriptions:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<p>NOT GREAT: By procuring our own podcasting equipment, we\u2019ll be able to make more podcasts every year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<p>GOOD: Purchasing this podcast equipment will enable my organization to produce 15 additional podcast episodes per year, while reducing the cost of each podcast by 30%.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<p>EVEN BETTER: We currently increase our podcast subscription base by approximately 20 people per episode we produce. Because we rent our equipment, we can only produce 10 podcast episodes per year. By owning our podcasting equipment, we could reduce the per-episode cost and produce an additional 15 episodes per year. We expect this to lead to an increase in our subscriber base by approximately 300 people per year.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/dd><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"faq__item\"><dt class=\"faq__question\">What do you mean by \u201cmay have to raise matching funding\u201d for the Foundation\u2019s gift?<\/dt><dd class=\"faq__answer\"><div class=\"rich-text\">\n<p>If you are a for-profit organization or a nonprofit organization with a projected 2023 annual operating budget greater than $1,000,000, you may be required to raise a dollar-for-dollar match to your Art + Tech Expansion Fund award.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/dd><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"faq__item\"><dt class=\"faq__question\">Can the matching funds be my own money or existing money from within my organization?<\/dt><dd class=\"faq__answer\"><div class=\"rich-text\">\n<p>No. Match dollars must be \u201cnew money.\u201d That means you\u2019ll need to get others to invest funds just like ours, whether it be from other grants, individual contributions, corporate sponsorships or other sources.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/dd><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"faq__item\"><dt class=\"faq__question\">At which point must the funding match be made?<\/dt><dd class=\"faq__answer\"><div class=\"rich-text\">\n<p>If your award requires a match, you will have approximately six months from the time you receive the grant to match our funding.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/dd><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"faq__item\"><dt class=\"faq__question\">Does Knight help me raise matching funds?<\/dt><dd class=\"faq__answer\"><div class=\"rich-text\">\n<p>No. Your best resources for raising matching funds are your local community foundations, private corporations, earned revenue, in-kind donations, public funds and crowdfunding.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/dd><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"faq__item\"><dt class=\"faq__question\"><strong>How do I know if my proposal fits your idea about art or capacity-building?<\/strong><\/dt><dd class=\"faq__answer\"><div class=\"rich-text\">\n<p>Test it out, we\u2019re happy to talk it through with you. Knight staff will be holding town hall meetings during the open call and daily virtual one-on-one office hours specifically for this purpose. It only takes a few minutes to offer your idea.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/dd><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"faq__item\"><dt class=\"faq__question\"><strong><strong>Who reviews my entry?<\/strong><\/strong><\/dt><dd class=\"faq__answer\"><div class=\"rich-text\">\n<p>Knight staff, with the aid of independent arts experts from the community. Ultimately, the final decision lies with Knight Foundation\u2019s Board of Trustees.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/dd><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"faq__item\"><dt class=\"faq__question\"><strong><strong><strong>How soon will we hear back with a decision on our applications?<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/dt><dd class=\"faq__answer\"><div class=\"rich-text\">\n<p>Members of the Knight arts team will contact applicants via email approximately two months after the closing date.
